DESCRIPTION:\nA service commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Royal Air Force.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Women’s Royal Air Force was reborn on 1 February 1949, offering women a full professional career in the Royal Air Force for the first time. Although women had served alongside the Royal Air Force (RAF) before, it had always been in a temporary wartime capacity.\n\n\n\nThe passing of the Army and Air Force (Women’s Service) Act in 1948 created the opportunity for a permanent peacetime role for women in the Armed Forces, in recognition of their invaluable wartime contribution.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis service is to commemorate and celebrate the Women’s Royal Air Force and to serve as a reminder of the background to it’s existence from 1 February 1949 until 1 April 1994.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn 1 April 1994, the WRAF formally merged with the RAF, marking the full integration of women into the air force.
